The Quiet House was founded in 2016 by Jane Doe, who grew up between Ojai and Santa Barbara before studying Environmental Design at UC Davis and completing a Master of Fine Arts in Interior Architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design. Today, the studio is led by Jane alongside Senior Designers Misayo Goto, and remains an entirely female-led practice. Based in California and working worldwide, the team of nine oversees every project from concept through installation, with a focus on intentional detail, honest materials, and homes designed for daily life.
 
Every project is guided by the same process: listen first, design with intention, and see each detail through to the final placement of objects. Our work spans full-service interior design, new build and renovation consulting, space planning and architectural detailing, custom furniture and millwork, material and palette development, art curation, and styling and installation, with virtual design services available for clients abroad. The portfolio ranges from a 1920s Spanish Revival estate in Montecito and a converted barn residence in Sonoma County to a family apartment in Amsterdam, a coastal retreat on Kauai, and a boutique guesthouse in Kyoto. In 2024, the studio launched The Quiet House Collection, a small line of handmade furniture and textiles produced in partnership with California-based makers.
 
Our work has been recognized by leading design publications and organizations, including the Elle Decor A-List, the AD PRO Directory, Interior Design Magazine's Best of Year honors, and the California Home + Design Awards. While recognition is never the goal, we're proud when the quiet details of our projects are noticed.
